GuestKit

GuestKit was a SaaS tool sold to Airbnb hosts (or other short term rental hosts). We identified a gap in the market: tools existed but they were not particularly high quality. When booking Airbnb’s myself, I found the check-in experience lacking and an inability to be self-sufficient. So we tried to build something to fix that!

Ultimately GuestKit failed for a few reasons.

1. We didn’t have a distribution advantage. We could reach people who found the tool useful, but not cost-effectively given the price point.
2. Customers had high switching costs. building out a guidebook for a host is a lot of up-front work. The time-to-value had a huge speed bump in it. Answering the odd question or phone-call here or there was annoying; but not enough of a burden. Our ICP should’ve been larger operations with multiple listings; they were much more likely to make that investment.
