PirateZoom

PirateZoom

So, for my school graphics GCSE project, I need to create graphic products to promote The Pirate Party/The Pirate Bay. I wanted to do something cutting edge, something different from the business card-letterhead fever that seems to grip the classroom. So I want to make a DeepZoom app! I got 44 images from people in school, and getting any more is going to be difficult. I used these 44 to make a DZ model, but it didn’t turn out too amazingly – which is where I want you to help me out.

I need pictures. Lots of them. Basically what I need is an image of you, you and some friends, your dog, your cat, whatever, holding up a picture of the Pirate Bay/Pirate Party logo, or holding up a piece of paper with “I’m a pirate!” or “I pirate X” on it. I don’t mind. Get creative.

So, help a brother out! I’ll end up putting the whole project on the web eventually for you to play around with – maybe you can try and find your picture! Email your images to lloyd.humph at gmail dot com. Keep them under 1mb! Ideally I need over 500 images, but if I can get more I can make a bigger PirateZoom!

Heres the demo one I did – it doesn’t work very well since you can see many of the images many times. http://www.lloydhumphreys.com/content/piratezoom/

Thanks!

Doesn’t Oxite, the Open Sauce blogging engine from MIX Online look fabulous?

Yeah, I thought so too.

Oxite is an open source, standards compliant, and highly extensible content management platform that can run anything from blogs to big web sites. We know this because it runs MIX Online.

Installing Windows 7 in VPC07

So you want to install Windows 7 in a Virtual PC huh? Well, here goes! First you’ll need to get it.. I’m going to assume you already do, since vpcyou’re here, but if you don’t, don’t you think it’d be a good idea to fetch it from Microsoft’s website? What makes my tutorial different from the professional ones? I’ll tell you, good sir, it’s because this one has a penis joke in it.

Create a Virtual Machine, it’s all pretty simple, but leave yourself a good 25GB of space in it. And whatever you do, don’t put the VHD’s/etc on the same HDD as your *actual* operating system, because everything will be slow as sh*t as the drive tries to run two operating environments at once.

First you’ll need to tie an image to your VPC, so once you’ve “acquired” the ISO file of Windows 7, head to CD > Capture ISO and open it. Then leave the rest to VPC07 as it boots up just as a normal PC installing 7.

Once Windows has loaded all the files, this happens and it will stay like this for a while. Then you’ll get a screen with “install” written on it – I jumped the gun a little and forgot to screenshot it. :P

Accept all the dumb licensing crap – who reads it anyways, eh? ;)

Select where you want to put it – there’s only one VHD in the  VM, so there’s only really one place you could put it…get this wrong and you deserve to be castrated :P

Wait 8-10 weeks for Windows to Install in a VM! But not to discourage anyone, this is definitely not how long it would take when installing it straight. The VM will also reboot many times during installation – so sit back, surf the web or whatever and check back periodically to check if it’s finished – and if not, you can laugh obnoxiously at the word “floppy”.

Next of course you’ll have to set up a user account, set the time, and set your network location/workgroup stuff. All pretty basic!

There you go! Finished!
